STUDENT SERVICE PROGRAM (SSP)

The Student Service Program (SSP) is a tutoring program available to all undergraduate Faculty of Music students. The SSP program offers support in academic areas including theory, history, dictation/skills, & writing projects in both the Classical and Jazz streams. Our program also offers support in assisting with job applications, developing performance skills, tips/tricks for building an effective practice routine, and many more!

Meet Our Tutors!

Kaylene (She/Her/Hers)

Kaylene Chan is a first-year Ph.D. student in music theory. She holds a Master of Arts in Music Theory from UofT, a Bachelor of Music (Voice concentration) with Distinction from the University of Victoria, and a Diploma of Music with Distinction from Capilano University.  Kaylene’s academic interests are in music cognition, popular music theory and analysis, and the pedagogy of music theory, looking specifically at analysis of groove embodiment in neo soul music. She has experience in teaching first- and second-year undergraduate music theory and skills classes and looks forward to the year with the SSP Tutor program.

Gabriella (She/Her/Hers)

Gabriella Vici is a second-year PhD student in the theory program. She completed her Bachelor and Master’s of Music in composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and an MA in theory from UBC. Her main research interests are in early twentieth-century music, and the tensions that often lie between past and present compositional practices in this repertoire. She is very passionate about teaching both tonal and post-tonal undergraduate theory, and looks forward to working with you on Tuesdays this semester! 

Emma Moss

Emma Colette Moss is a Czech-Canadian conductor and pianist with a passionate commitment to enhancing the accessibility of music for all audiences. She is currently completing a Master’s of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Toronto, under the guidance of renowned conductor and violist, Uri Mayer; her studies are supported by both a University of Toronto Fellowship and SSHRC CGS-M Award. Emma has been a TA for several courses, including Musical Skills, Music Theory, and Introduction to Music & Society. Alongside having worked as a private teacher for several years, feel free to bring any rudiments, theory, harmony, skills, or writing work you need help.
