The attached Bylaws document outlines the structure and principles of the FMUA, as well as fundamental governing rules. It provides details regarding:
FMUA membership & fees
Roles of the Board of Directors (who is responsible for what, voting, eligibility, elections, etc.)
Meetings and operating procedures
Finances (including yearly budget timelines, banking and signing authority)
Role of the FMUA Officers, Program Representatives, Speaker and Commissioners
Clubs, Committees and Program Unions
Amendment of Bylaws, Policies and Procedures
The attached Policies and Procedures document outlines more specifications on the FMUA itself, its mandate and what the FMUA does year to year. This serves as the primary policy document of the Association. It is maintained, edited, and managed by the Office of the Vice-President Operations, upon the direction of the Board. Consequently, policies can be amended and updated more freely year to year. It provides details regarding:
Advocacy (mandate, operations, authority of the Board)
Services (individual grants, Special Project Funds, clubs, Edward Johnson Building Music Cafe, intramurals, merchandise, music stands program, FMUA office services, syllabus database, textbook program etc.)
Events (Benefit concert, Ontario Music Educators Association Conference, Orientation, socials [large vs. small scale], therapy dogs etc.)
Internal (Committees, budgetary process, code of conduct, Director responsibilities, Endowment Fund, fee schedule, hiring, retreat etc.)
Please note, the FMUA Board of Directors meet regularly, with meetings called by the Speaker, President, Executive Committee, or half of the voting Directors. Regular meetings require seven days’ notice; emergency meetings require two.
All FMUA members can propose motions to be included on the agenda if submitted in advance. Meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order and are generally open to all FMUA members, who may attend, speak, and raise issues. Members can use meetings to raise awareness about faculty concerns. We want to hear from you!
