Dear Board of Directors:

Stands in each practice room, studio room, and classroom!

Board, I am so very happy to announce that since your vote to approve money towards purchasing a stand for every room, that is, every practice room, studio, and classroom, in EJB and 90W, Niki has gotten the order form in and the stands will be arriving shortly, way before the start of the year! This is a momentous step towards what the students have been asking for.

However, for the FMUA to step in and purchase stands with the student society money is unacceptable. Especially when this is something that should have been done by the Faculty and not the FMUA. 

Students, your money has been used to purchase equipment that the school should be providing us! The Faculty has already, two years ago, purchased new stands for large ensembles, but due to their locked-up nature, there has been no change in the practice rooms!

Students, these new stands are bought with your money! Let them not disappear into the concert halls and jazz lounges of Toronto. Keep them at EJB/90W!

The Varsity Column

We are now collecting interested people for our The Varsity column throughout the year. If you know anyone that would like to write about the state of music in Toronto, let them sign up for The Varsity column. I am hoping this will boost the visibility of the Faculty in the UofT community at large.

New Cameras for the Yearbook & Events Photos!

Thank you Niki for managing the new cameras! They look really cool (I am not a professional) however, given their price tag (check our finances page for details), I am hoping they will last many years into the future, taking high quality photos!

Textbook Program

The textbook program is a program to connect upper year students (who have old textbooks) to first year or otherwise textbook needy students. There used to be a Facebook group that did this, however, for us to run a program like this might spread the word further. 

Gig Promotion Program

Elyssa is starting a gig promotion in which student concerts will be posted on the FMUA website and FMUA Instagram. This is so that students can know and should know all the happenings around in their community and gigs that their friends are playing at!

Music Cafe

Incorporated, POS system done, menu done, maintenance people coming, licences are coming along (slowly) - the Music Cafe reopening is right around the corner - a centre of community building and hopefully a great morale booster for our members.

The FMUA now appears on Google Maps! The Music Cafe will soon, hopefully in the next couple days, also appear on Google Maps. Board, would it be in your interest to purchase advertising for the Music Cafe?

Annual General Meeting on July 17, 2024

Let me know if you plan on attending the AGM on Wednesday. Please come! We need 28 people (which includes proxies) to make Quorum! Let’s get the bylaw passed!

New FMUA signs for our Office Door

New signs are arriving on Monday for the FMUA Office door! They are removable letter signs, one for the front, and one for the back. The one on the front of the door will display out office hours, contact information, and service info. The one on the back of the door will display the person in the office and services that the FMUA provides in office. 

Battery Bank Charging Program

Thank you Board for this budget amendment! These should arrive on Monday. Students will be able to lend out a battery bank to charge their phones and devices. This replaces our old program of charging stations. 

Wii on the Third Floor Program 

Thank you Board for passing the Wii on the Third Floor Program. A Wii and a TV will be installed in the nook by the vending machines on the third floor, to be overseen by the Sports Directors. It is my sincere hope that these will contribute to student life at the Faculty. 

Bylaw has passed the Board! Now onto AGM…

Congratulations to the Board in passing our newly amended Bylaws! Students, if you want your voice to be heard in the shaping of the bylaws, please attend the Annual General Meeting! Bylaws must pass both the Board and the Members to be amended! This is our first time amending the Bylaws since 2017 - way past due!
